- Is effective when asked to pull, showing the agility, speed, and overall range to get out as a lead blocker, where he locates defenders and shows the ability to adjust and land blocks against linebackers.
- Coordinated when moving to the second level as a run blocker, capable of landing blocks on the move.
- Plays with natural leverage and has the strength to anchor against the bull rush. Ericson also packs a violent initial punch that can stand up pass rushers.
- Solid positional run blocker who flashes the nasty demeanor and killer instinct scouts covet.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Has a bad habit of panicking on reach blocks, lunging, and grabbing rather than trusting his athleticism to get him in position, which could lead to frequent flags for holding.
- He’s shaky as a pass protector, which is troublesome for the next level. Ericson often plays too high with an inconsistent kick slide.
- More of a wall-off blocker at the second level, rarely putting defenders on the ground. Ericson could stand to be a more tenacious finisher at the next level, as Ericson too often falls off blocks.
- Can struggle to stay engaged, especially on the second level. His hand placement can be sloppy, costing him power.
