Draft Profile: Bio
Zach Rice from Liberty Christian Academy High School was rated a 5-star recruit by ESPN and handed a 5-star grade by 247 Sports. Following high school, Rice opted to join North Carolina.

In 2022 as a freshman Rice saw action in just 2 games and played a total of 16 snaps for the Tar Heels. He allowed no QB hurries, no QB hits, and no sacks while playing sparingly.

As a sophomore in 2023 he played in just 2 games and a total of 12 snaps. He conceded no QB hurries, no QB hits, and no sacks while playing sparingly.
Scouting Report: Strengths
  • Cerebral player, quick to react to twists and stunts up front, and Rice shows an excellent understanding of angles when moving out as a run blocker.
  • Has a naturally wide base, thickly build and good length. Long legs to cover a lot of ground with his initial kick slide. Has the quickness to set up quickly with enough lateral shuffle to mirror and mobility to get to the second level.
  • Shows good quickness and flexibility on reach blocks, and he has enough range to get out as a puller.
  • Has a strong, flexible core, and the ability to absorb and anchor against the bull rush as a pass protector.
  • Willing to attack and punches multiple times to finish the play. Quick to pick up edge blitz and shows no panic, easily adjusting angles and resetting his feet. Can recover and reset his anchor. Rarely late off the snap.
  • Plays with appropriate wide base and intelligence, instincts and agility to seal the edge. Aggressive extending with power to punch and looks comfortable in space.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • Rice seems too focused on winning with his hands, too often stopping his feet. Rice also plays with poor balance in the run game, lunging into contact rather than sinking his hips and delivering a block.
  • He’ll have trouble with elite quickness at the next level.
  • Often gets too high in his sets, sacrificing some of his power, and Rice doesn’t show great coordination between his upper and lower body when sliding back in pass protection.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
