C.J. Hanson from St. John Vianney Regional High School was rated a 3-star recruit by ESPN and handed a 3-star grade by 247 Sports. Following high school, Hanson opted to join Holy Cross.In 2019 as a freshman Hanson saw action in just one game and played a total of one snap for the Crusaders. He allowed no QB hurries, no QB hits, and no sacks while playing sparingly.
As a sophomore in 2020 he played in 4 games and a total of 144 snaps. He conceded no QB hurries, no QB hits, and no sacks while playing most of his snaps at right guard.
In 2021 as a junior Hanson saw action in 13 games and totaled 735 snaps. He gave up 6 QB hurries, 2 QB hits, and one sack while playing at right guard.

Scouting Report: Strengths
- Hanson is a work in progress with high-end physical traits. He’s extremely light on his feet for a 300-pounder, a natural knee bender who plays with balance and leverage.
- Coordinated when moving to the second level as a run blocker, capable of landing blocks on the move.
- In the run game, Hanson plays with a mean streak and does a nice job generating a push at the initial point of attack. He can get outside and does a decent job landing blocks in space.
- Hanson will have a chance to develop as a right tackle or possibly inside at guard, where he could be an interesting prospect for a zone-blocking team. If nothing else, that versatility is enough to make him at least a quality reserve.
- Dips shoulder and moves his feet to get outside leverage when needed. Strong and low coming out of his stance, effective in short-yardage situations.
- Cerebral player, quick to react to twists and stunts up front, and he shows an excellent understanding of angles when moving out as a run blocker.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- He’ll give effort, but doesn’t generate much power at the point of attack. He’s not the type of interior blocker who can re-establish the line of scrimmage, instead relying on angles and technique to win.
- Had issues against quality counter moves, struggling to readjust. That’s something he’ll see frequently against NFL technicians in the pass rush.
- Hanson doesn’t have ideal coordination between his upper and lower body and is often overeager to land an initial punch, Hanson is prone to playing off-balance and struggling against counter moves.
