Scouting Report: Strengths
- Provides some secondary interior pass rush, getting most penetration when playing three technique.
- Clayton has a wide base and a low center of gravity to hold his ground, as well as the upper-body strength to shed blockers.
- He has an excellent feel for working off blockers and knowing how and when to counter as the play goes on.
- With a powerful lower body and the ability to hold up at the point of attack as a run defender, Clayton is remarkably instinctive.
- He’s a good lateral mover who shows surprising speed for a 300-pounder when chasing the ball carrier in pursuit.
- A technician with a high motor, he has a variety of moves and displays exceptionally good hand use. Clayton shows a strong finishing burst and has the power to hold at the point of attack as a run defender.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Might be limited to one-gap systems. Agility isn't a question but misses tackles when Clayton doesn't square and break down.
- Clayton struggles to shed blockers and doesn’t show ideal lateral movement skills. He also needs to make better use of his length and hands in the pass rush.
- Clayton lacks suddenness as a mover, and he isn’t going to do much in the pass rush when working one-on-one.
