Scouting Report: Strengths
  • Shows a natural feel for setting up blockers and getting them off-balance. His hands are active and violent, and Welschof quickly disengages with blockers and counters when his initial move stalls.
  • Welschof has a lethal spin move and the pure speed to close quickly.
  • Looks the part. Possesses a long, athletic build with room for additional muscle mass. Flashes a burst off the snap, good enough to cross the face of collegiate tackles and put him in position to make big plays behind the line of scrimmage.
  • Welschof has the classic frame and long arms with some explosion, power and ability to close.
  • Naturally explosive player with decent get-off speed. Balanced through contact and stout against double-teams. Tackles through the ball. Versatile and has the body type to play many roles.
  • Good lateral agility to elude. Plays on the balls of his feet and shows enough balance and flexibility to quickly turn and pursue laterally and downfield. Plenty of athletic talent worthy of developing.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • Is still a bit raw as a pass rusher and needs to diversify his repertoire of pass-rush moves.
  • Welschof lacks elite traits in the pass rush and will need to develop a counter move.
  • Plays tall and gets upright off the snap. Wins with upper-body strength and needs to focus on leverage.
