After high school, McCall opted to join Coastal Carolina.In 2019 as a freshman McCall saw action in just 2 games for the Chanticleers as he threw for just 25 yards on 4 attempts with a completion percent of 100 for an average of 6.3 yards per pass, with just one TD, while taking no sacks, and an excellent QB rating of 132.3.
In 2020 as a sophomore he played in 11 games as he passed for 2488 yards on 250 attempts with a completion percent of 68.8 for an average of 10.0 yards per pass, with an impressive 26 TDs, while also taking 11 sacks, and putting up an excellent QB rating of 130.6. He made 107 runs for a total of 592 yards at an average of 5.5 per rush.

Scouting Report: Strengths
- McCall thrives when he’s extending plays. He’s a loose athlete who should be able to clean up his mechanics at the next level. He’ll hang in and take big hits.
- McCall has a quick release and shows good accuracy on shorter throws when on the move to either side.
- Good (not elite) arm strength and can easily make all the NFL throws with effortless deep passes.
- Flashes good accuracy to all levels of the field and has the arm strength to make every requisite NFL throw.
- He’s a threat with his legs - his play-fakes are outstanding, and McCall has the ability to manipulate safeties with his eyes.
- Very confident passer and shows good accuracy and feel when in rhythm
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- He’s far too quick to lower his eyes and look for a running lane after moving off his first read (too many plays in college that won’t translate to the NFL).
- McCall has to clean up his throwing motion when he’s on the move. McCall was often too quick to pull the ball down and take off, and McCall seemed to have trouble sifting through moving parts in the middle of the field.
- He’s more comfortable throwing deep outside the numbers than working the middle of the field.
