Following high school, Thomas opted to join Georgia Tech.In 2018 as a freshman Thomas saw action in 9 games and played a total of 412 snaps at edge rusher for the Yellow Jackets. He recorded 36 tackles, one assist, while adding 14 stops. In coverage Thomas notched up one pass breakup, no interceptions, and a QB rating when targetted of 91.1. Scouting Report: Strengths
- Thomas is aggressive in run support, with a physical mentality, but struggles to break down space and leaves production on the field.
- Can track the ball downfield and gets his head around when playing in a trail position. He’s a plus tackler in run support as well.
- His ball skills are very good. Thomas tracks the ball well downfield and has the hands and coordination to come away with interceptions even when he isn’t targeted often.
- Good instincts and anticipation reads and reacts with discipline. Dangerous with the ball in his hands.
- Willing and successful blitzing off the edge. Consideration for a move to safety with a combination of range and sure tackling.
- Strong hands to make plays on the ball, effective blitzer who shows well-coached technique and awareness.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Gets sloppy with his backpedal when playing off-man and seems to lack the instincts to close on the ball.
- Not great in man coverage. Does not have elite speed and loses speed/gears down while turning.
- Isn’t great in route recognition when he’s facing the action, is hesitant and susceptible to double moves, and too often gets unnecessarily handsy
