Scouting Report: Strengths
  • Good (not elite) arm strength and can easily make most of required NFL throws with decent deep passes
  • High football IQ with great leadership qualities - reads the defense well and is outstanding pre-snap calling audibles
  • Isn't lead-footed - not an elite scrambler but does enough to buy time
  • Clutch player - gets better and raises the offenses in crucial situations
  • Fantastic timing on his throws - his receivers rarely have to work too hard getting to the ball
  • Ball placement is a strength. Haener has the natural instincts to make plays when forced to improvise.
  • Graet processer cycles through reads quickly and is a very confident passer who shows good accuracy and feel when in rhythm
  • Generally accurate on intermediate and short throws; flashes anticipation and placement on intermediate outs and the ability to lead receivers on deeper throws.
  • Good zip and ball placement on the quick slant. Good touch down the seam and on post-corner, flag routes to attack the defense vertically and horizontally.
  • Haener has a quick release and shows good accuracy on shorter throws when on the move to either side.
  • Has shown he can fight through injuries and tries to play no matter what - a real competitor
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • Slight frame with limited room for additional growth means it's unlikely he'll ever be looked at as a long-term pro starter
  • Has missed multiple games through injury - may struggle to stay healthy at the next level
  • His arm is good but not great, and Haener loses accuracy and velocity when he is moved off his spot.
  • Too often fails to give receivers a chance to make a play after the catch
  • Puts too much air in some of his throws and needs to show a lower trajectory on deep throws

Scouting Report: Summary
Jake Haener is a classic overachiever as a signal caller who lacks the prototypical size for the position standing at just 6-1, weighing in at 200lbs (with his pockets full of sand), and without possessing any other top-level athletic traits. Despite he's consistently managed to perform at a high level while at Fresno State and lead his team through some hard-fought wins. He possesses a decent right arm enabling him to make all but the most demanding NFL throws along with outstanding accuracy and ball placement on short to intermediate passes.

Haener is never going to be looked at as a long-term NFL starter, but still seems like an ideal backup - who'll not lose a game for you as a game manager. Expect Haener to be viewed as a late-round prospect in the 2023 NFL draft.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
