Scouting Report: Strengths
  • He’ll appeal to man-blocking teams, and he’s a fairly high-upside developmental pick when considering his value in the run game.
  • Shows good quickness and flexibility on reach blocks, and Pines has enough range to get out as a puller.
  • Fires out of his stance with a good pad level, consistently winning at the point of attack.
  • He’s a fluid mover in pass protection, with great coordination between his upper and lower body. Pines sets with a wide base, has the requisite core strength and plays with natural balance, capable of sitting back and handling power.
  • Has the natural power to move defenders at the point of attack. He also has the agility and speed to get out in front and land blocks at the second level. Pines also shows a good understanding of angles when climbing to the second level.
  • Attacks his man, playing with a wide base and the lateral agility to mirror, sustain and shuffle to help inside. Has the size, strength and quick feet to be effective as a position run-blocker.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • For all of his physical gifts, often gets terribly sloppy, especially in pass protection.
  • Middling physical traits limit his ceiling, and Pines most likely will top out as a fringe starter on the right side.
  • Is a little too much of a waist bender, and he doesn’t play with ideal power and functional strength. Most concerning - he often gets caught dropping his head, a bad habit that will have to be corrected.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
