Draft Profile: Bio
Khalil Shakir was a multi-threat player at Vista Murrieta High School in Murrieta, California. He finished the 2017 season with 102 carries for 906 yards (8.9 per carry), seven touchdowns, 17 receptions for 243 yards (15.5 yards per carry), and two touchdown receptions. He was named to the 2016 All-CIF Southern Section Div. 1 Offensive Team at the utility position.
He was widely recruited and chose Boise State Broncos over a number of Pac-12 colleges.

He played little as a freshman but was handed an All-Mountain West Honorable Mention after appearing in all 14 games, making five starts, He ed the team in receptions (63), while finishing second in receiving yards (872) and receiving touchdowns (six).
In 2020 in a short season, he started all seven games logging 52 catches along with 719 Yds and 6 TDs- he also had a solid 96.1 QB rating when targetted. He was awarded with a spot on the All-Mountain West First Team for 2020.
In 2021 as a senior Shakir put up his best season yet as he chalked up 1117 Yds on 77 receptions and hauled in 7 TDs. His QB rating when targetted fell slightly to 94.7 and he had a somewhat disappointing 10 drops over the course of the season. Prior to the season, he was also added to the watchlist for the Maxwell Award, the Biletnikoff Award, and the Polynesian Player of the Year Award.
Scouting Report: Strengths
  • Very good on jet sweeps and in the screen game - also has experience as a returner
  • A natural crisp route runner with elite body control who is able to make circus catches
  • Knows how to beet press corners with leverage and excellent foot speed
  • Tracks the deep ball over either shoulder and brings in passes fluidly without breaking stride downfield.
  • Balanced, savvy route runner with top field awareness, setting up and selling routes beautifully.
  • Willing to go over the middle and isn't scared of contact
  • Provides a good element of versatility - played both in the slot and outside
  • Very good as a YAC athlete who has has excellent field vision and some ability to sqirm out of tackles
  • Has good but not elite straight-line speed but takes advantage of open seams when his quarterback is on target.
  • Often used on deep routes, getting separation down the sideline or over the middle on crossing routes by extending his arms rather than pure speed
  • A savvy, natural pass-catcher with reliable hands and very good focus. Snatches the ball out of the air and shows the concentration to make acrobatic catches look easy.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • Has a smaller than ideal frame with only average length arms
  • Makes crazy catches with strong hands one minute then drops an easy one the next. Has concentration lapses (10 drops in his senior year)
  • Played in a spread scheme and as a result, had a very limited route tree at Boise State - only ran six routes on a regular basis
  • Does not always use his hands to secure deep throws, allowing the ball into his pads and chest. This has led to more drops than you would hope for a player of his caliber
  • Has only average height and overall length. Lacks an initial burst off the line of scrimmage and has more build-up speed than track wheels. Limited explosiveness and flexibility and will struggle to separate against pro defensive backs
  • Doesn't have the size to consistently win on the outside, but can be productive working the middle of the field and as a return man.
Scouting Report: Summary
Khalil Shakir is a solid NFL prospect we project as a #2 WR/slot role at the next level. He's a good but not a great athlete, who's a good route runner and has excellent hands but has unfortunate lapses in concentration which have resulted in drops.
We consider Shakir to be a likely 4th-round prospect in the 2022 NFL Draft who could eventually become an NFL starter, and until that point will be valuable as a special teams contributor.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
