Draft Profile: Bio
Kyler Goodson played on both sides of the ball at Archbishop Murphy High School in Everett, Washington, he caught 82 passes for 2,209 yards and 25 touchdowns at wide receiver. He also added 16 interceptions on defense. He was listed as the No. 102 overall prospect and No. 20 cornerback in the nation by 247sports.com and ranked as the No. 25 cornerback in the country by rivals.com. He was a four-star recruit and was heavily recruited as a result. He had offers from Notre Dame, Oregon, USC, and UCLA, but ultimately selected Washington.

In 2018 as a freshman Goodson played sparingly but saw significant action as a sophomore in 2019 where he played in all 13 games and started four. He made 21 tackles and had an 88.5 QB rating when targetted. He received an honorable mention All-Pac-12 selection and was named to the Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll.
After playing in just four games of the COVID shortened 2020 season he broke out with an elite season. Goodson started all 12 games and in doing so made 43 tackles, collected 2 interceptions, and shut out WRs for a very impressive QB rating when targetted of 49.1. At the season's end, he was named to the All-Pac-12 first team and won the Husky Excellence Award at the UW's postseason awards banquet.
Scouting Report: Strengths
  • Great athlete with elite speed, quickness, leaping ability, and natural tight coverage instincts
  • Has great cover skills, athleticism, and big-play ability to be a lead cornerback
  • Spart player with a high football IQ and is a smart organizer in zone coverage
  • Easily enough foot speed and length to stay with slot receivers in four-wide sets on short patterns
  • Is able to give the receiver a large cushion and has the speed to close it down in a flash
  • Has good football awareness to read and react quickly and stay balanced and patient in space.
  • Plays the ball as if it was thrown for him, showing burst back to the ball as well as good timing for the jump ball.
  • Equally adept playing the slot and outside corner position
  • Good strength to tackle and willing patrolling sideline to sideline. Plays with high energy and is a tough-minded overachiever.
  • Physical, sheds defenders and works off blocks. Good toughness with recognition skills to fight through traffic and blow up screens.
  • Has legitimate NFL-caliber cover skills. Has a quick, low backpedal with a fluid hip turn to cover receivers down the field.
  • Ranked on Bruce Feldman's annual 'Freaks List' -- "The 6-foot, 200-pound junior, who has a background in dance, Kung Fu, and ballet, has added five more pounds of bulk this offseason but still retained his unreal flexibility and jumping ability. Gordon has vertical jumped 42.5 and clocked a mercurial pro agility time of 3.87 seconds."
  • Has an NFL frame with strong hands, the ability to close quickly on underneath routes and the size to tackle with a thump.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • Takes some bad angles to the ball carrier resulting in miss tackles
  • His hands aren't great and drops catchable interceptions, and when he does he holds the ball loosely
  • Sometimes too aggressive and grabby may draw a number of unnecessary PA penalties
  • Fits best in a zone system, despite having very good man coverage skills may struggle against taller receivers in man coverage at the next level
  • A little bit of a long strider at times and struggles sinking his hips coming out of breaks
  • His aggressiveness is an issue in the run game where he over pursues - needs to become more controlled
  • Has had only one year of very good tape (2021), prior to this he was merely good
Scouting Report: Summary
Kyler Gordon has been shooting up draft boards lately - at the end of 2020 he was a likely late-round pick, but after an elite year where his production finally matched his innate athletic skills he is now being talked about as a possible day one pick.

Gordon has elite athletic skills combined with natural coverage skills and a natural feel for the game and his playing negatives are for the most part only minor and will most likely be worked out by a decent coaching staff in the pros. Our only drawback stopping us from handing him a top-level grade is his limited amount of production at an elite level. Was 2021 an outlier or just the new norm for him? We think it's most likely the latter but it's by no means guaranteed.

Overall we consider Gordon to be an outstanding pro prospect with the potential to be a pro bowl player in the NFL and expect him to hear his name called in the late first early second-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
