Draft Profile: Bio
Rasheed Walker was an elite talent while playing at North Point High School. He was named team MVP and collected 63 tackles and 11.0 sacks on defense while anchoring an offensive line that scored 37.0 points per game in his senior year. He was rated a four-star prospect by all three major recruiting outlets – 247Sports, ESPN, and Rivals. Ranked as the No. 47 overall prospect, No. 3 offensive tackle, and No. 3 player in Maryland by 247Sports. Walker predictably was heavily recruited and had offers from a number of top schools - ultimately decided on joining Penn State.After only playing a few snaps in 2018 Walker was given the starting job at left tackle. On 674 offensive snaps, he surrendered 5 sacks and 18 total pressures. In 2020 during the COVID shortened season he started all 9 games and played on 726 snaps while giving up just 2 sacks and 14 total pressures. He was named third-team All-Big Ten by the media and given an honorable mention All-Big Ten by the coaches.
In 2021 as a redshirt junior he made 10 starts and on 729 snaps gave up 4 sacks and a disappointing 26 total pressures.
Scouting Report: Strengths
- Impressive combination of measurables at 6-6 313. It's been reported that has Walker clocked a 5.01 40, a 4.66 shuttle, with a 28.0-inch vertical and an 8-07 broad jump. His strength numbers included a 350-pound clean, a 400-pound bench press, and a 580-pound squat
- Good foot speed - gives him the agility and quickness to stay with pass rushers on the edge
- Is a decent run blocker who plays with leverage - get's under defenders' pads. Has the power and strength to drive defenders backward
- Gets off the snap with explosion and quickness - his first move is usually his best
- Nice developed hands. Strong with an impressive punch that keeps defenders away from his body
- Quick out of his stance with the footwork to be effective in front of screens. Willing to get out in front of ballcarriers to take out defensive backs and linebackers.
- Can get to the second level with surprising agility when adjusting to moving defenders. Excellent overall agility and straight-line speed to contribute.
- Quick feet to get inside of defensive tackles to wall off inside and reach linebackers at the second level.
- A smooth mover and covers a lot of ground, agile, and keeps his feet moving
- Very difficult to defeat with a bull rush - anchors well at the POA and will not be driven back
- Has the feet to adjust when he anticipates what's coming. Elite core strength to absorb the bull rush. Can clear a path at the second level if he hits the target.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Had a nice career progression arc until 2021 where his production fell off and he looked distinctly average
- Upper body gets over his feet too often and he easily loses his balance.
- Missed the combine with a mystery illness - will need to show well at Penn State pro day
- Has a tendency to bend at the waist - not a natural knee bender
- A bit of a lunger and often ends up over balanced
- Very inconsistent in pass protection - doesn't seem natural or instinctive. Has given up too many easy pressures
- Has inconsistent footwork and body positioning and needs to improve his blocking angles.
- Height can be a detriment in short-yardage, defender can get under his pads to hold the line.
- Stops his feet after initial contact, relying on length but allowing defender to get the corner or spin inside.
- Attacks when necessary, though he won't consistently dominate and can lose balance overextending
Scouting Report: Summary
Rasheed Walker is an impressive athlete who was highly regarded coming out of high school and early in his college career. His production dropped in 2021 where he displayed issues with overall technique and inability to handle quicker pass rushers.Walker has all the tools athletically to succeed at the next level he seems very raw especially as a pass protector - despite having played in over 30 college games, which we view as a bit of red flag.
We look at Walker as a probable fourth-round selection in the 2022 NFL Draft who may be over-drafted due to his elite measurables and potential to develop.
