Scouting Report: Strengths
- He’s very good in coverage when looking into the backfield in zone coverage.
- Greet feel in coverage. Often arrives at the receiver at the same time as the ball, giving up few yards after the catch. Possesses straight-line speed to stay with or chase down receivers in man.
- Handles misdirection well with quick change-of-direction ability. Comes downhill quickly against the run when Bethune has an open lane.
- Bethune has the kind of turn-and-run fluidity to be used in man coverage as well, able to run with tight ends and running backs.
- Intelligent player who can play "MIKE" linebacker despite his lack of size because of his instincts and ability to find the ball in traffic.
- Has the combination of size and athleticism worthy of development.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- As a pass rusher, Bethune lacks the ideal length to consistently win off the edge, even if he manages to improve his at-times sloppy hand usage.
- Gets caught with the eyes in the backfield at times. Strong backs can run through his tackle attempts if he's not in position.
- He’ll need to be covered up to be effective. He’s not the kind of guy you can line up in the pass rush and have him bend the edge; he’s limited to shooting through gaps.
