The NFL has just posted a list of 323 college football players invited to the 2021 NFL Draft Scouting Combine. It usually takes place in Indianapolis, but the COVID-19 pandemic has forced the NFL to make some changes to the format.

Among the changes will be no in-person workouts at the combine instead they will take place at colleges' pro days, all interviews and psychological testing will be entirely virtual and there will be very limited in-person medical exams.

NFL Draft Memo Scouting Combine Changes to Format

An official NFL memo states. "Instead, any workouts will take place on the individual pro days on college campuses "

The memo states:

TO: Chief Executives
Club Presidents
General Managers
Head Coaches
Head Athletic Trainers
Head Team Physicians

DATE: January 18, 2021

SUBJECT: NFL Scouting Combine

As a follow-up to the Football Operations memo dated December 23, a special committee chaired by John Mara that includes representation of ownership (Michael Bidwill, Katie Blackburn); GMs (Kevin Colbert, Rick Spielman); and medical and athletic training (Ronnie Barnes and Drs. Tony Casolaro and Allen Sills) has provided guidance on the 2021 Scouting Combine. Consistent with medical and public health advice, the 2021 Combine will be conducted in a different formal There will be no in-person workouts at the Combine. Instead, any workouts will take place on the individual pro days on college campuses. We will work with the schools to encourage consistency in testing and drills across pro days and ensure that all clubs have access to video from those workouts. irrespective of whether the club is represented at a particular workout. Rules governing timing and testing of draft-eligible players and club personnel attendance at pro days will be sent in a separate Player Personnel memorandum.

With the assistance of a working group of club physicians and athletic trainers, we are developing a plan to obtain comprehensive medical information on each of the invited prospects. This plan will likely involve a combination of virtual interviews by club medical staffs and testing done at labs and medical facilities near the invited prospect's residence (permanent or temporary). For a certain number of prospects, an in-person examination will take place at one or more designated locations, likely in early April. Each club will be permitted to send one physician and one athletic trainer to conduct these in-person exams, which will likely be scheduled over a two or three-day period.

Club interviews of prospects and psychological testing and assessments will be done virtually based on a schedule coordinated by Jeff Foster and his staff at NIC. As a lead-up to the 2021 NFL Draft, invited prospects will be scheduled for media interviews with NFL and club media, and NFL-affiliated broadcast partners. Colleges will be asked to conduct virtual media availabilities with Combine invitees, helping promote the players, their schools, and the upcoming Draft. In addition, head coaches and/or general managers have typically been available to the assembled media at the Combine in Indianapolis. We ask that you continue this important tradition virtually in 2021.

As the committee continues its work and overall plans for the Combine are confirmed, we will be in touch to provide additional details.
